At the cutting edge of translational medicine
The combination of basic research and clinical application (from bench to bedside) is at the heart of our clinic. Today, more than ever, this translational model is at the forefront of modern medicine and healthcare.
Thanks to our many years of expertise, we see ourselves as the pivotal point between (basic) research and application in patients. Whether it is new applications for established medicines or the development of new and novel active ingredients, patients receive comprehensive care by translating scientific findings into everyday clinical practice as quickly and optimally as possible. At the same time, research is advanced by directly addressing questions arising from clinical application.
Through existing and emerging networks, we are actively linked to various centres of excellence within our university and are thus making a significant contribution to the advancement of personalised medicine. This enhances the quality of patient care and research.
Nationwide and Europe-wide networking is also an important factor for us in sustainably increasing the quality and efficiency of research.
Interuniversity networks
Our clinic is part of various university centres, which enables smooth and seamless collaboration with specialists from different disciplines. This ensures that patients receive the best possible care.
Our department is represented in these MedUni Wien centres:
CCC - Comprehensive Cancer Center
CCCD - Comprehensive Center for Chest Diseases
CCIM - Comprehensive Center for Infection Medicine
CCII - Comprehensive Center for Inflamation and Immunity
CCPM - Comprehensive Center for Perioperative Medicine
International and national networking
The ‘everwarm clinical trial network’ initiative was launched in 2024 to respond quickly and effectively to emerging health events such as a pandemic or epidemic. Under our lead, together with the Medical Universities of Innsbruck and Graz, we are forming an Austrian network that drastically reduces lead times and thus response times. The participating institutions complement each other in their respective areas of expertise in research and patient care.
Within this network, we also make our expertise available for research throughout Europe. Professional and targeted communication supports collaboration at all levels and ensures the smooth running of clinical trials and the generation of scientific evidence in the event of epidemics and pandemics.
