New approach for peritonitis

Current study shows way for the treatment of complicated inflammations after peritoneal dialysis.

Our team is pleased about a new publication in the journal "Clinical Microbiology and Infection". For many patients, renal replacement therapy is a good solution for diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure. However, complicated inflammations of the peritoneum occur time and again. In our current study, we show how a specific combination of active substances with only low doses can also get difficult-to-treat germs under control.

"This therapeutic approach is groundbreaking," explains Markus Zeitlinger, head of the University Department of Clinical Pharmacology. "Civilisation diseases that make kidney replacement therapy necessary are on the rise. A therapy for any complications that may occur in the course of such dialysis could be a life-saving measure in the future."
